Police Station. At 15.15 hrs. on 23/2/46 in Det. Office Central Police Station I read charge C to 1st deft. I

was satisfied he understood the charge.

I cautioned him

according to the set form printed on the statement in

answer to the charge and was satis fied he und ers to od the

caution. He elected to make a statement in Chinese which

ment to him. He said it was correct and signed his name.

The statement is now produced (Exh.L). The statement reads:

In reference to the case I did not take active part but I

was present at the time. It was he who held a gun. The

gun was for children to play and was a toy one. I was not

willing to do. He had a sense of menace.

At 15.30 hrs.

on same day at same place I read over same charge to 2nd

deft. I was satisfied he understood the charge. I the n

cautioned him according to the said set form and was satisfied

he understood the cauti on. He made a statement in Chinese

which I took down word for word in Chinese. I read over

statement to him. He said it was correct and signed his
